EcoDesign, based on a comparative life cycle analysis (LCA), is an approach that takes into account potential environmental impacts in the design and development of a product, service or building. This approach takes these impacts into account throughout its life cycle: from resource extraction to end of life. The life cycle analysis (LCA) according to ISO 14040-44 used as an ecodesign method thus provides decision support elements in the choice of design, because it:
Allows the identification and promotion of products with the lowest impacts in a building design process
To obtain this certification in EcoDesign, a verification must be carried out by the Taïga Initiative™ of the LCA report. When the verification of the LCA report shows that everything is in conformity, the certification of the Taïga Initiative is delivered for promotion and the project is added to the register of certified projects online. Depending on the demonstration of the percentage reduction in the impacts of a construction or renovation project, a bronze, silver or gold certificate is issued.
